Christian Devotional – January 25, 2019

God is good and gives good things. Just yesterday we saw that we are not to be deceived. Well sometimes the way we can be deceived has to do with assuming that God is causing horrible things to happen to us. That is not who God is. Read James 1:17-18.

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Everything good and perfect comes from God. He does not give bad gifts. He is not out to try to hurt us. What we must understand, is that sometimes we are the recipients of the consequences of our own actions, which are not always good. And sometimes, Satan tempts us and tries to deceive us by bringing about evil things in our life. But the things of God are always good and perfect.

However, we must remember, God sees all things and the big picture of every situation, so while He may know that what He is bringing about is good, it may not feel good or seem good to us in the moment. Our insight is so small, we cannot trust it. What we can trust, is that God is good and that, as these verses say, He brings good things for us. Do we trust God? Do we trust that what He brings us is good? Will we seek His good for our lives today?
