Day 26 – Remember. Nehemiah relates what he has been doing, but then makes it very clear that he is only intrested in God remembering what he did, not other people. Read Nehemiah 5:16-19.

I also applied myself to the work on this wall; we did not buy any land, and all my servants were gathered there for the work. Moreover, there were at my table one hundred and fifty Jews and officials, besides those who came to us from the nations that were around us. Now that which was prepared for each day was one ox and six choice sheep, also birds were prepared for me; and once in ten days all sorts of wine were furnished in abundance. Yet for all this I did not demand the governor’s food allowance, because the servitude was heavy on this people. Remember me, O my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.

When we do things, who do we want our recognition from? Who do we want to remember the things that we have done? For Nehemiah, he did the things that he did in order to help and to benefit the people of Israel, but he really was only intrested in God’s reward and in God remembering what he did. He knew, as many of us do, that a lot of the things that he did throughout his life were not going to be written in history books or told to other generations.

Yet, God sees and knows and understands every single moment of every single day and takes into account all that we do. God remembers. God knows our heart and our motivation as well. We can’t hide anything from God, but we also must remember that God doesn’t forget anything either. The times when we act in integrity and no one is looking, God sees. When we do what is right even when it’s hard, God sees. When we suffer for the things that we have done, God sees. God sees and God remembers. What will God remember about our life today?
