Cast-off. What are we hanging on to and what do we cast off? When we look at the things in our lives, we have to be intentional about that decision. Read James 1:21.

Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:21 NASB

Yesterday we discussed how important it is to not allow our anger to determine what we do. Man’s anger does not achieve the righteousness of God. So recognizing that, we can move forward now and cast off all the things listed in this verse. We must cast off filthiness and the remains of wickedness. We must have humility to receive God’s word in our heart. We simply can’t do that if we are holding on to anger.

What do we hold on to? Anything that we choose not to cast off, we automatically hold on to. The decision to cast off things in our life is an intentional decision. We must consciously choose what we will let go of, because for most of us the natural instinct is to hold on to things. Being intentional to let go of the things that are not of God is a conscious choice, but one that we must make if we want to see God’s word impact our life. Only by casting off the things of this world will we be able to truly act out the word of God. What will you cast off today?
