VERSE:
1 Peter 5:6–Humble yourselves therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
TRUTH:
We’ve heard the statement that pride goes before a fall, and that is certainly true. However, this verse refers to the opposite. Before exaltation comes humility. We can not be lifted up if we have not first surrendered ourselves in humility before God. Even then, God is the One who determines the when and the how of being lifted up. We do not get to determine that. Still, are we willing to submit ourselves to God and humble ourselves, knowing that He deserves it as He is greater than we will ever be?
RESPONSE:
Father, I know that You are the One who deserves to be lifted up, not me. I will freely and completely submit myself to You. You have total and complete say in my life and it is entirely up to You when and if and how You choose to lift me up. I will find my contentment in You alone and if I am ever lifted up, I pray that You will be the only One who receives the glory.
