Christian Devotional – July 2, 2019

Three years, no rain. It’s been a long 3 years for the people of Israel. Now God is on the move again. God has been providing for Elijah through this whole time and now God is ready for Elijah to take action again. Read 1 Kings 18:1-2.

Now it happened after many days that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, “Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the face of the earth.” So Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. Now the famine was severe in Samaria.

This whole situation started when Elijah went to Ahab and told him that God would not bring rain on the face of the Earth. Well, God is sending Elijah back to Ahab because God is ready to show rain. It’s interesting that nothing has changed on Elijah’s part or on Ahab’s part. This has simply been determined because God decided it was time.

Do we wait on God’s timing? We know that God knows all things and that his timing is perfect, but so often we try to run ahead and see things accomplished before God has set aside that time. What if Elijah had gone to Ahab before this? Well, Ahab was so mad at him that he would have killed Elijah. There is still a specific time for everything that God wants to see accomplished. Are we willing to wait and move within his time frame?
