Afraid and hopeless. Yesterday we saw Jezebel threaten Elijah and today we see that Elijah is afraid. Read 1 Kings 19:3-4.

And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O Lord , take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”
1 Kings 19:3‭-‬4 NASB

He ran for his life. Terrified, he then left his servant and continued on by himself. Then he sat down and begged God to die. Not exactly what we think of when we talk about the heroes of the Christian faith. Yet, we all have moments and times of difficulty, depression, and disappointment. Elijah was human and God knew that.

While this may not be a shining moment of faith on the past of Elijah, God doesn’t abandon him and doesn’t give up on him. He also won’t give up on us, even in those down moments when we feel that we have failed him and have nothing left to live for. God is there for us.
