Christian Devotional – July 8, 2019

“Do you know who I am and what I have done?” So often we don’t feel like people really know us. Obadiah wasn’t sure that Elijah really knew him. Read 1 Kings 18:13-14.

Has it not been told to my master what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord , that I hid a hundred prophets of the Lord by fifties in a cave, and provided them with bread and water? And now you are saying, ‘Go, say to your master, “Behold, Elijah is here “‘; he will then kill me.”

To be fair, Obadiah was living a secret life as a Christian in king Ahab’s court. He realized that Elijah may not know some of the things that he has done and he wanted to make sure that Elijah knew that he was not an enemy of God, but in fact followed and worshiped God. Remember yesterday, Obadiah was 100% convinced that Elijah would be saved and he would be killed as a result of following these actions.

Whether or not Elijah knew all about the things that Obadiah had done, God knew all the things that Obadiah had done. At the end of the day Obadiah had to come to the place where he trusted that Elijah was giving him direction from God and did he trust God, not does he trust Elijah?

We may wonder what God is doing or how God is using other people, but ultimately the question is really about do we trust God and what he is doing. God as the one who is in control and has these situations well in hand. Are we willing to place our faith in him because he does truly know who we are and how he can best use us to bring about his glory..
