Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 10

Giving credit, part 2. Read Daniel 2:29-43.
Do you ever have to repeat yourself? As a parent, I know I’ve said the same thing to my kids multiple times. There have been moments I have been tempted to record myself saying those things so that I could just play them back each time they needed to be told. While repeating things can sometimes be really challenging, we also tend to repeat things that we want to emphasize or that we really enjoy. I also tell my kids that I love them a lot and I’ve never thought of that as a negative.
Repeating things isn’t always bad. Sometimes, we need to repeat statements to ourselves and to others so that we remember the truth of the statements and so that others remember the truth of the statements. Daniel repeated himself to the king. He didn’t want to take any kind of chance that the king wouldn’t understand or wouldn’t remember what he said. Daniel knew that the credit for what he was about to do wasn’t with him. The credit was directly a result of God. He didn’t want to forget it and he didn’t want the king to forget it either.
Daniel said all of this even before he gave the king the information he was seeking. Daniel wasn’t taking any chances. How diligent are we to make sure that the credit for ideas goes to the right place? Do we overemphasize it? Do we repeat it? Is it the first things that we say?
Think about the last time someone paid you a compliment. Think about that compliment and how much was your work and how much was God working in and through you? We often don’t give God enough credit for everything that he has truly orchestrated in our lives. Are we ensuring, and repeating, that God gets all the glory?
