But God, Why? Day 7

God answers and shares the 5 “woes” of sin. Read Habakkuk chapter 2 and focus on verses 6-8 for the first “woe.”
Piled up wealth, gained by extortion. God is answering Habakkuk. Habakkuk wants to understand why evil people seem to persist. Why is it that people seem to continue doing evil and sinful things and God did not address it. Well, now we see that God is going to speak about this. He talks about the fact that the nations will come against these people and they will address multiple things. God lists 5 woes that will address the sins Habakkuk is seeing.
The first of these woes is the sin of stealing and extorting money from other people. As God is explaining this, we see the Babylonians were taking wealth through extortion. We know from history that they would demand outrageous prices to leave people alive or to allow cities and countries to remain under their rule. People would have to pay incredible prices to buy protection from the Babylonians.
This is unjust and unrighteous. God calls it out here, saying the people that do this will be held accountable for it. And they will be addressed by the people that they have wronged. In answering Habakkuk, God wants us to know that he is not blind to the issues the people are experiencing. God understands and God is going to address in his timing. Are we willing to wait on God’s timing? And are we making sure that we are not participating in the evils?
