But God, Why? Day 11

Don’t follow idols. Read Habakkuk chapter 2, focusing on verses 18-20.
God shares the final sin with Habakkuk that will punish. Idol worship. At that time, it was very common for people to take wood or metal and cover it with gold and talk to it like it was a living, breathing entity. God is instead saying, how silly are you to ascribe that level of consciousness to something that can’t hear you and can’t speak to you, and certainly can’tdo anytjing for you.
God wants people to understand that he is the creator and he is the one to be worshiped, not the creation that he made. As we understand all that God is doing and has done in our lives, we must recognize that we should not have anything that we are giving a higher place in our life than Gid himself. He is worthy of the highest place of reverence and glory and devotion. There is nothing in this world that is worth more or should receive our devotion like him.
In today’s time, we don’t necessarily set up wood or metal objects to receive our devotion. But, we still have many things that we worship instead of God such as money, or power, or position, or fame. Sometimes we worship health and security. These concepts are things that are given to us by God. They are not gods in and of themselves. God is telling Habakkuk that he is going to punish those who have other gods besides him.
Are we treating anything else like a God? What do we need to give up in order to fully sacrifice our lives completely to the only true God.
