The Message – #66
What are the characteristics that God looks for and what does he value in a person. Obviously God values perfection since he is holy. But there are some other characteristics that he values as well. Read Isaiah chapter 66 and focus on verse 2.
“For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares the Lord . “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
Isaiah 66:2 NASB

God is looking for the person who recognizes his holiness and as a result sees himself and his position and as a result is humble before God. Do we recognize the holiness of God in comparison to our own shortcomings? When we see God for who he is, we see ourselves for who we are. The response can be nothing else than complete surrender and submission before a holy God.
Do we come to him humble and contrite? Do we recognize that he owes us nothing and we owe him everything? Only through seeing ourselves as God does can we truly come to the place where God can live and shine through us. If we think we are more than we really are, we will get in the way of God living through us and people will see us instead of seeing him. Are we allowing Christ to live through us so that other people see him in our lives?
