But God, Why? Day 15

Yet, I will rejoice. Read Habakkuk chapter 3, focusing on verses 17-19.

Habakkuk has heard all the difficulties and struggles that he and the rest of the Israelites are going to have to endure. Habakkuk understands that this is part of God’s will. Habakkuk even understands that God is going to judge the people for the things that they’re going to do, but that will only happen within his timeline, not Habakkuk’s,. Knowing all of the struggles and the trials and the challenges he’s going to go through, Habakkuk says, “Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord.”

Why do we praise God? Do we bless him only when he blesses us? Do we seek only positive and happy things from God? Or do we recognize that God is God and worthy of our praise regardless of how he provides for us. God has promised to provide for us and he is worthy of our praise, even if those provisions are difficult and hard. God is worthy of praise even when we go through hard times. God is worthy of praise even in the midst of our suffering. Will we praise God, regardless?

As we end our series asking “But God, why,” we learn from Habakkuk and his questions that God has a purpose for everything. God has a plan for everything. God is holy. Finally, we see that God is worthy of praise in absolutely every situation. We can ask God the questions, but are we prepared for the answers? Habakkuk was not the same afterward, and we won’t be either.
