Work that is worthy. We all work, whether it is a career position that we get paid for or a hobby we enjoy or just the day to day activities. They question is are we working in a manner that we are worthy of what we receive for it?

The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, ” you shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing ,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

Paul is looking at this from both vantage points. The worker who is doing the work should be doing a good job. That person should be worthy of the position and the responsibility that they have. If they are working well, then they deserve to be rewarded for that work. The compensation, whether it’s pay or thankfulness or whatever else, is something we owe someone who does a good job working.

When we see people perform admirably, whether they are working a job, parenting their children, or simply being a friend, do we praise them for how they work? A worker who is doing a good job is worthy of the reward they receive. Are we working in a manner that we would be worthy of that reward? And when we see others who are working that way, do we focus on ensuring that we reward them for what they have done?
