Why I believe in Christ, Day 1

A declaration of faith. Read Romans chapter 1.
The book of Romans has played an incredibly pivotal role in the history of the church. Paul wrote this book appealing to the believers in Rome and asking for their help and support in his ministry. Paul makes a tremendous defense of his faith in the gospel. Versus are used and quoted regularly from this book. Martin Luther was studying this book when he began the protestant reformation. Entire evangelism programs are built around verses in the book of Romans. And, plenty of theological debates and discussions have occurred around the topics throughout this entire book.
As we study through this book over the next 16 days, we are going to see more things than we could possibly cover in 365 days of studying. My goal is not to try to rewrite a commentary over Romans, but simply to help us to see this book, through the lens of Paul as he is defending his faith.
Today, looking at verse 16, we see that Paul makes no apologies for his faith in Christ. He does not try to hide it. He is not worried about who knows and who doesn’t know. Paul believes in Jesus Christ, and he wants the entire world to know that.
More than that, Paul knows the gospel of Jesus Christ has purpose and meaning in the lives of everyone else around him as well. Paul’s deepest desire is for other people to come to the same knowledge and faith in Christ that he has.
As we look at his confession of faith, do we have the same convictions? Are we as desperately desiring to see others come to Christ? Do we boldly declare our allegiance to Christ? For today, seek to take one step closer to being like Paul in declaring that we’re not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ today.
