But God, why? Day 1

Why does God allow evil and wrongdoing? Read Habakkuk chapter 1, focusing on verses 1-4.

As we start a new book today, we are focused on one man’s conversation with God. One man is looking out across his world, and he sees the political landscape and the structure of the countries he is in, and he does not understand. This man, Habakkuk, comes to God with his questions. This short book has so much truth that we can learn from. Habakkuk questions God and seeks to understand the reasons behind what God is doing.

There have been many times in my life when I have asked God question “why?” I’ve gone through so many situations and I don’t understand the reason God allowed them. Coming to God and asking “why” is much more common than what a lot of us think. It’s also not wrong to ask God “why?” We see multiple people in the Bible who do it as well.

As we study this book, we will not only see Habakkuk’s questions, we will also see God’s answers. We have a God who is not afraid of questions. He is not worried about having to explain himself. Sometimes God chooses to give us understanding and insight and other times God chooses that not to, but it’s not because he is afraid of the questions.

If we are genuinely seeking to follow the Lord and truly desiring to understand how and why God moves, God will honor that desire and give us the information that we need in the time and the way that we need it.

Why does God allow bad things? Habakkuk’s first question strikes at the heart of many of the questions I have asked in my life. We will see God’s answer tomorrow.
