But God, why? Day 2

God does things that we can’t believe and wouldn’t understand. Read Habakkuk chapter 1, focusing on versus 5 through 11.

Habakkuk had asked the question. He didn’t understand why God was allowing the evil things in the world to continue. He didn’t understand why wrongdoers seemed to be left unchecked and were flourishing and prospering. He asked the question and God answered him. The answer was probably not what anyone would have expected. You see, God explained that he himself was making the Babylonians successful. He himself was allowing them to increase and overpower other nations.

God was using the Babylonians to bring about judgment on the other nations who had been denying him for so long. God knew he would eventually bring judgment on the Babylonians themselves for what they were doing, but in the meantime, God was allowing them to be judgment for others.

When we look at our world, we may not understand why God is allowing the things that he’s allowing. It doesn’t make sense. However, God has a plan and God has a purpose. We will be utterly amazed when we see God’s plan come about. We may never have guessed why God’s allowing the things that he is, but we can trust in him and know that He knows best for everything.
