Observations from the Doctor, Day 25

What lasts? Read Luke chapter 21.

Many years ago, I went to the beach and enjoyed the ocean. I was fascinated by the people building sandcastles. Some of these would be incredibly intricate and ornate, yet as soon as the tide came in, they were washed away. I used to wonder why the builders would spend so much time and energy on something that was going to be gone in just a matter of hours.

As we read through this chapter, Jesus is sharing about what will come to pass in this world. You see, the things of this world are going to fade and pass away. Only Jesus and his words will continue forever. It seems hard to believe, but just like those sand castles, everything we see and know will fade and be gone. We are simply a vapor that exists for a short time. The question we nee to ask ourselves is “What is going to last and what should I be doing about it?”

Jesus and his words will last. Are we focusing on that which is going to last? Our time and energy is to be spent focusing on the items that are going to last forever. Otherwise, we are spending so much time and energy on the things that are going to fade away. Make sure our energy is focused on building what will last, Jesus and His Word.
