Christian Devotional – March 19, 2013
VERSE:
2 Chronicles 18:6–But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”
TRUTH:
Jehoshaphat and Ahab had a plan and wanted to ensure that God was going to bless it. Ahab had several false prophets who came in and said exactly what Ahab wanted to hear, but Jehoshaphat didn’t want just a bunch of “yes men,” he wanted to know what God had to say. When we are seeking advice, do we know the difference between Godly advice and people who just tell us what we what to hear? Are we actively seeking to know what God’s desire is for us in every circumstance?
RESPONSE:
Father, I will seek You and Your true word regarding what I will be doing. I do not want people to just tell me what they think I want to hear, but will tell me Your word so I can seek after You and all You desire.

Hi Kristi. Absolutely, we need more people willing to speak the truth. Unfortunately, the truth can be convicting and we’ve grown up in a culture which teaches “feeling good” is better than being good. Thus, calling sin,SIN, is being judgemental, and afterall, we don’t want to judge anyone, so if God’s word makes us “feel” judgemental, we’d better not say it, at least not outloud, or to others. Maybe we should just soften it a bit “Did God REALLY say…?”…..for some reason C.S. Lewis’ book “The Screwtape Letters” is coming to my mind. hmmmmm

Julie you are so correct! More of us need to commit to speaking the truth in love. The Srewtape letters are an excellent example of how Satan tries to pacify the believers into silence. We must actively choose to stand up for the truths found in the Bible. If we don’t, who will?
