A Prayer for You, Day 1

Prayers and instructions for others. Read Philippians, chapter one focusing on versus 1 through 6.
For this new series, we’re moving back to the New Testament. Paul is writing a letter to the church in Philippi. Philippians is one of the last books that Paul writes before he is killed. In this book, we see much of Paul’s heart for the people that he was discipling. He is constantly praying for them. He is constantly seeking the Lord for them. And, he is desperate to help them understand how to live the Christian life with honor and with glory, and in a way that pleases, God.
As he writes this, Paul is in prison. He’s writing to some of his supporters who have been there through thick and thin with him. The church in Philippi has sent him money, support, and friends during his imprisonment. Paul is writing this letter back to them to encourage them, instruct them, and to let them know just how much he’s praying for them.
As we read through this book over the next several days and weeks, we’re going to focus in on the prayers to pray for ourselves and to pray for those around us. Reading these first 6 verses, we know that God is working in and through all of us. We can pray with joy. Sometimes we get the impression that prayer is tearful or only in difficult and dire circumstances, but prayer is often done. In joy. Being able to come to the Father on behalf of those that we love is a truly joyful experience. Paul is praying with joy for the people of Philippi.
Who are we praying for? Are we praying with joy for those people, desperate to see them become all that God wants them to be, and excited as we see progress in their life. God is working and moving in all of us. Are we praying for others with joy today?
