Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 3

High stakes and highly unrealistic. Read Daniel 2:1-9.
We’ve all had difficult bosses before. You know the ones. They always seem impossible to please. Nothing is ever good enough. There’s fault in everything we do. They always seem to ask for the impossible with absolutely no budget, no timeline, and they want it all done yesterday. While we may have struggled with some of our leaders, we’ve probably never been told what Daniel got told.
The king had a dream and wanted to know what that dream meant. Not really all that unusual in that day and time. However, he refused to tell people what the dream was. Instead, he claimed that if they truly could interpret the dream, then they would know what the dream was, and they could tell him both the dream and its interpretation. If they didn’t do that, they’d all be killed, along with all their families. Talk about high-stakes.
When was the last time you have successfully told someone else what they dreamed last night? This seems like a completely impossible mission. Sometimes when we are working and leading people, we feel like we are given truly impossible circumstances and situations. The question becomes, how will we respond?
Over the next couple of days, we’ll see two different types of responses. Understanding how to lead through challenging circumstances includes understanding how to negotiate the impossible boss. We have to realize that only through God are we able to be seen as successful in the eyes of the people that we report to. Are we following through and coming to God even in the midst of the most horrendously impossible situations and circumstances? God is the only answer to dealing with these type of situations. Are we leaning and trusting on him alone?
