Character. The people around us should be able to see the character we have based on how we live and how we treat others. Read 1 Timothy 5:9-10.
A widow is to be put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man, having a reputation for good works; and if she has brought up children, if she has shown hospitality to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has assisted those in distress, and if she has devoted herself to every good work.

Paul is continuing to give direction on how to treat widows. Here, he explains how the church should take care of widows who don’t have any family to care for them. But, he wants to make it very clear that these widows that are being cared for by the church should be women of good character who have demonstrated their faith in Jesus Christ through the actions of the have taken.
How does our character compare? When we look at our life and what we do on a daily basis, how does that compare to Paul’s standard here. We must recognize our responsibility to live out the character of Jesus Christ through our actions and every day.
