Christian Devotional – November 3, 2015
VERSE:
James 3:6–The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
TRUTH:
“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me.” This may be the saying that children say, but nothing is further from the truth. The words that we say and the words that others say to us go a long way in shaping who we are and who we will be come. Do we speak words of life and encouragement to others or the opposite? Are our words to ourselves positive and encouraging or are we constantly putting ourselves down? The whole body is affected by the words from our tongue and so much evil can be done by flippant words said in anger. What will we choose to use our tongue for today, giving life through words or giving death through words?
RESPONSE:
Father, help me to be focused on You and all that You do. I want my words to be a reflection of You and not an example of the fires of hell. Keep my tongue in check and help me to learn to allow You to control my tongue.
