Faith leads to righteousness. Read Galatians 3:6-9.

Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness . Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ” All the nations will be blessed in you. ” So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

Paul uses Abraham, one of the great fathers of the faith, as his continued example of the importance of believing in Christ alone and not in works to be made right with God. We know that Abraham had experienced many things throughout his life, but the Bible here specifically says that it was his faith in God that is what God credited as righteousness for him. God saw Abraham as righteous because Abraham had faith in him, not because of the works that Abraham had done. So, we too can be made right with God only through our faith.

Paul goes on to explain that only those people who have faith in God are truly sons of Abraham. To the Jews, who believed that their birthright gave them special access to God, this was a revolutionary idea to them. They felt they were right with God because of their heritage and lineage leading them back to Abraham. However, here, Paul states that only those who have faith in God are truly sons of Abraham.

Are we sons of Abraham? Do we rest in faith or are we trying to earn our way into heaven? Are we truly sons of Abraham?
