Left-handed Ehud, #1

We’re going to jump back to the Old Testament and take a look at a little known character by the name of Ehud. What was so special about Ehud, you ask? Ehudd was left handed. But before we get to him, we have to understand the world he lived in. Read Judges 3:14-16.

Now the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord . So the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the Lord . And he gathered to himself the sons of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and defeated Israel, and they possessed the city of the palm trees. The sons of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
Judges 3:12‭-‬14 NASB

The Israelites had sinned…again. Because of their send, God allowed them to be taken captive by one of the godless nations surrounding them. Eglon of Moab became powerful and captured Israel. He had been over them for 18 years.

Sometimes, it takes us a while before we really understand our sin. We don’t recognize that it’s sin and we don’t change anything. The Israelites continued to do the same thing over and over again and as a result they found themselves captured and enslaved over and over again. We can still sin and God will still forgive us, but only when we truly repent and change our direction and do something different and demonstrate the life change that Christ has made in our heart will we see the change that God desires to bring in our life.

Where are we? Are we diligently and obediently following Christ because of the change he has made in our life? Or, are we falling in the same rut and sinning again? God desires to bring true change to our lives and to our hearts and will only do that if we give him the freedom and the control to make the changes He needs to make.
