ADHD Gospel, Day 47

Teaching. Read Mark 11:12-19.

Whenever I have thought of the story of Jesus casting out the money changers from the temple, I have thought more about the physical acts Jesus did. We know he was angry, but this verse reminds us that it wasn’t just about his anger. Jesus used this as an opportunity to teach. He wasn’t just screaming the statements about the house of the Lord being a house of prayer. He was teaching them when we look and think about it from this vantage point.

We see that this was not an act of defiant rebellion. This was discipline and correction. Jesus used this opportunity to address a wrong that was being committed, and to teach what should have been done instead. Ensuring that people were doing the right thing was of paramount importance, but they could only do that if they understood the reasons why. Jesus wasn’t yelling in anger. He used this time to teach.

When we get upset or angry about things that anger the Lord, are we still focused on teaching? Are we seeking to find ways to restore people to a right relationship with God? Yes, there are things that should make us angry. And yes, we need to address those things. However, we need to do so in a way that brings glory to God. This allows us to teach the people to follow God more closely.
