New Beginnings, Day 42

God’s plan. Read Genesis chapter 42.

It had to have been quite the experience for Joseph to have seen his brothers, watch them bow down to him, and think back to all of the conversations they had had when he was a child. He had told them his dreams that they would bow down to him. Now here he is, and God brings everything to pass. It was emotionally overwhelming for Joseph.

So many years have passed, and yet the question that Joseph wonders is are his brothers the same cruel individuals that they were when he was a child? Joseph devices a number of tests for his brothers so he can truly understand the character of their hearts. Part of this is realizing that Joseph could speak their language, but he also spoke the Egyptian language and kept the fact that he was a Hebrew a secret from them.

Joseph knew in this moment that God was bringing to pass all of the things that he told Joseph he would do, but Joseph didn’t allow that to change who God was to him or who he was as a person. Our new beginnings are almost always the result of our past experiences and God’s hand moving through them. Who we are is in large part due to what we have gone through that has shaped our perspectivesand allow God to mold us into the character of individual that he wants us to be. Are we allowing God to do the shaping and the molding so that we can be who he wants us to be in the moment?
