Days of Wisdom, Day 20
Know yourself. Read Proverbs 20.
How well do you really know yourself? Can you articulate what you like and what you don’t like? Many of us know what we like when we experience it. We recognize “Oh, this is great!” or “Oh, I really don’t like that.” However, the insight needed to be able to identify and then accurately explain what we like and don’t like to others is something that many of us struggle with.
Solomon recognized that and explained the desires of the heart are like deep waters. When we think about the importance of explaining ourselves in our desires, do we recognize them and can we clearly specify those desires?
So often at work, I’m asked by my leaders to explain what I like or don’t like about their leadership. They want me to give them feedback. Sometimes I’m able to easily articulate that information, and other times I struggle. I know what I like when I experience it and I know what I don’t like when I experience that as well. But being able to put that into words in a way that is constructive and becomes something that another person could take action on to improve is very challenging.
How good are you at giving feedback? Are you able to clearly share what is in the depth of your heart so that others can act and react in a way that is meaningful to you?
