ADHD Gospel, Day 30
Still not understand. Read Mark 8:11-21.
Have you ever been in the situation where someone’s explaining something to you and you listen to their explanation, but yet it still doesn’t click. You still don’t get it. They get to the place where they finish their explanation and they look at you, and they say, “what do you think?” You have to admit to them that you still don’t understand. That can be really frustrating for both sides of that conversation. The person feels like they have done everything to tell you all about whatever it is and you don’t understand why they can’t explain it in words that just make sense.
Jesus had been teaching the disciples for a while. They had witnessed the incredible, amazing acts of miraculous work that Jesus had done. They had been part of incredible acts of God. They had seen Jesus feed thousands of people with tiny amiunts of food, yet we see them here worried about having enough food.
It can be easy to read through the Gospels and get a little annoyed with the disciples. Why didn’t they get it? Why didn’t they understand who Jesus was? After all, Jesus had told them who he was and demonstrated this, but they still just didn’t get it. As easy as it is to get frustrated with the disciples, I have to take a step back and look at all the things God has done in my life, and then wonder why sometimes I still doubt his goodness. Why do I still doubt his purpose? Why do I still doubt that he is going to take care of the situations that we’re in? I’ve seen and experienced everything that God has done in my life. And yet, there are times that I still question and wonder. I still don’t seem to understand just exactly how in control God truly is.
Don’t be so quick to judge the disciples without taking good inventory of ourselves. Jesus Christ has done amazing things in my life and in your life, yet how little do we truly understand everything that he does. Take some time today to stop and give credit to God, admit our lack of understanding and ask him to continue to reveal himself to us every day.
