Begin Again, Day 35

Consistency. Read Joshua chapter 23.

Joshua is giving his final address to the people. He knows that he is coming toward the end of his life and he wants to pass on the legacy that he has been carrying. It’s amazing how many phrases in this chapter mimic Joshua chapter one where God was speaking to Joshua. We know that God had worked in Joshua’s life in amazing and tremendous ways.

Now we see Joshua passing along that same wisdom to the people of Israel. If you think about the amount of time that has passed since God sent those words to him, you see how consistent Joshua had been. He continued to believe and to follow through on all the same things that he was doing throughout the whole of his life. Now, he is passing along these truths to the rest of the people of Israel as a final reminder and legacy that he is leaving.

Are we consistent when we go to begin again? We must commit ourselves to being consistent in all things. This means waking up every day, doing the things that God has called us to do, and most of the time, those are the mundane and boring things of this life. It’s about the consistency of the obedience of the people that follow God. Does our life demonstrate that consistency like Joshua did for the people?
