VERSE:

2 Chronicles 10:8–But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

TRUTH:

The people had come to make Rehoboam him, but they had a couple of questions first. They wanted to know if he would be as harsh as his father. Rehoboam asked for advice on how to answer them, but he didn’t like the first set of advice, so went seeking additional advice. His arrogance and pride and refusal to listen to the advice of the wise men resulted in the people refusing to follow him and rejecting him as king. Who do we listen to? Where do we get advice? Do we seek advice that is truthful and honest or just words that we want to hear?

RESPONSE:

Father, I will seek Your advice and will follow it even if it’s not what I had originally wanted to hear. I want to be obedient to You in all things.
