Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 4

The whiners. Read Daniel 2:10-13.
If you’ve ever spent my time around other people, you will notice that often there’s a group of people who just are never happy. It doesn’t matter what the boss says, they will find something to complain about. These are the whiners. They’re the ones who can take even a good situation and make it sound truly awful and horrible. They like to encourage other people to join their way of thinking.
As we look at responses to this king’s outrageously crazy demand, we first have to look at the whiners. Admittedly, what the king was asking for was completely out of the realm of reality. However, I suspect that these were probably the same people that still would whine about anything that the king had asked. Whiners tend to be whiners, no matter what the circumstance is.
As we look at this passage of scripture and seek to learn from it, we need to understand first, don’t associate with the whiners. Don’t listen to them. Don’t give in to them. Don’t hang out with them. If you do, you will find yourself doing the exact same things that they do. When you are around somebody who is whining, find a way to move away from them. These people absolutely had something to be upset about, but their complaining and whining wasn’t going to change the situation or the circumstance.
That’s the thing about whining. It doesn’t matter whether you have a legitimate reason to be upset or not, whining and complaining doesn’t change the situation that you are in. All it does is change your attitude, and not in a good way. Are we staying focused on the Lord, or when things come up, do we simply whine about them to anyone who will listen?
