Christian Devotional – August 5, 2015

Read 1 Samuel chapter 30

VERSE:

1 Samuel 30:6–David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.

TRUTH:

I imaging David was greatly distressed when his own men were talking about stoning him. These were his friends and the people who had stood with him. Yes, they had just realized that their families and belonging had been stolen while they were out helping David, so their anger and frustration is understandable. Still, what did David do? He didn’t whine to them. David found his strength in the Lord. When we are going through tough times and don’t understand why and when it feels like everyone we know and trust has turned on us, where do we go to find strength? Our strength is only found in the Lord our God.

RESPONSE:

Father, I know that life doesn’t make sense sometimes and I will never have all the reasons for why things happen, but help me to always seek You and find my strength in You. I know that You will be the One who will keep me and move me. I will praise You and bless You in the easy times and in the tough times because You are there through everything.
