VERSE: Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold the Lord’s hand is not too short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. TRUTH: These verses so accurately convey our dilema. God is able to save us, but we are the one who has put a barrier between us and God. He desires to see us reconciled to Him so He made a way to bridge that separation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Lord is over all things and His…

VERSE: Isaiah 58:13-14a–“If because of the sabbath, you turn your foot from doing your own pleasure on My holy day, and call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable, and honor it, desisting from your own ways, from seeking your own pleasure and speaking your own word, then you will take delight in the Lord.” TRUTH: The Lord’s holy day is to be treated with respect and reverence. We are to honor it and to treat it as special. We put away our desires and selfishness and then we will take delight in the Lord. RESPONSE: Father, I will delight in You this day. Because of…

VERSE: Isaiah 57:18–I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and to his mourners. TRUTH: When we are repentant and sorry for the things we have done wrong, God says that he will see our ways and heal him. God promises to lead us and restore comfort to us so that we will not be left in mourning for the wrong we have done. RESPONSE: Lord, thank You for all you have provided for me. Thank you for restoring me to comfort and leading me as I repent and turn to You.

VERSE: Isaiah 56:7–“Even those I will bring to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” TRUTH: People come to the Lord and they are bringing themselves and their offerings. God says they will be accepted and that His house will be called a house of prayer. Jesus quotes from this passage later during His ministry when He throws out the money changers from the temple. Do we treat God’s house as a house of prayer? RESPONSE: Lord, Your house is holy…

VERSE: Isaiah 55:9–For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts. TRUTH: God sees the big picture when it comes to the events and the happenings of this world. He sets everything in motion and He has a plan and purpose for all. We can trust Him and what He does and allows because He is higher than we are and His ways are higher than our ways. Do we trust Him that He knows best in our lives? RESPONSE: Lord, You are higher and holier than I am. Even when I do not understand,…

VERSE: Isaiah 54:10–“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but My lovingkindness will not be removed from you and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says the Lord who has compassion on you. TRUTH: What do we hold on to? What things do we consider our “rock?” God tells us that even the most steadfast things in our life may be shaken or removed, but His love and peace will never be removed or shaken. We can always trust in His love and compassion because He is always there for us. RESPONSE: Lord, You are steadfast and You have compassion on me. Your love…

VERSE: Isaiah 53:5–But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our sins; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him and by His scourging we are healed. TRUTH: This prophecy Isaiah gives referring to Jesus is a strong message that explains the purpose for Jesus’ coming. Jesus came to take the punishment for our wrong doings upon Himself. Because of His wounds we have the payment for our sins. He took it upon Himself so that we would not have to because we would not have been able to withstand the judgment of God. By His wounds we are healed. RESPONSE: Father, Your sacrifice is so…

Book Review – What Do I Do Now? – by Mary Cole Roberts
For those who have lost loved ones, the tidal wave of emotions that follow can be overwhelming. Mary Cole Roberts shares her emotional journey in an incredibly heartfelt book of poems, “What Do I Do Now? Poems for Those Left Behind.” Mary was gracious enough to allow me to read through her journey as she recorded it through poetry. Mary begins by sharing with us the love story between her and her husband Dale. She explains how they met, what their relationship was like, and then the circumstances leading up to his death. The personal glimpse into her life was beautiful and really set the stage for the poems that…

VERSE: Isaiah 52:6–“Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore in that day I am the one who is speaking, ‘Here I am.'” TRUTH: In the day of restoration, the Lord will reveal Himself to His people. Those who don’t know Him will be blaspheming against Him, but God’s people will know His name and recognize God when He speaks. Do we hear God when He speaks to us? As His children, He wants to reveal Himself to us even now. RESPONSE: Lord, Your Name is worthy of praise and honor. You are over all things and help me to be listening for You and recognize Your voice today.

VERSE: Isaiah 51:12–I, even I, and He who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of man who dies and of the son of man who is made like grass? TRUTH: Where does our comfort come from? God. We can seek comfort from many other things, but only God is the true Comforter capable of providing exactly what we need in every situation. We don’t need to fear men for they die and are gone, but we trust in God in every situation. RESPONSE: Lord, I will seek my comfort from You and You alone. I know that no one else can truly hurt me, I will trust…
