Christian Devotional – January 15, 2013
VERSE: John 5:6–When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” TRUTH: This seems an odd question to ask. Wouldn’t a person who had been sick a long time want to be well? Why does Jesus bother to ask? Sometimes when we are in our sin and doing things we know are wrong, we know what we should be doing, but we’re not ready to give up our sins yet. Jesus wants to make sure we’re ready to come to Him and trust Him, He’s not going to force us to…

Book Review – Lightning Strikes by Prism Book Group Authors
In the next few weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, I’m going to be taking a look at a love stories I’ve read lately. While waiting in an airport a couple of weeks back, I went searching through the Amazon store to see what I could find to pass the time and stumbled upon Lightening Strikes by a group of Prism Book Authors, Carlene Havel, Bonnie McCune, Josie Riviera, Trinity Hart, and Kim McMahill. I find group authors fascinating just to see if you can tell who wrote what. I decided to give it a try. In this book, Rachel Harman is a reporter who finds herself stuck in…

Christian Devotional – January 14, 2013
VERSE: John 4:14–but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed the water I give them will become in them a spring welling up to eternal life. TRUTH: Jesus spoke with a woman and was describing who He was and what He could do for her. He tells her that he has living water that will become a spring inside a person that wells up to eternal life. Our faith in Jesus is as refreshing as a spring of water. Do we constantly feel fresh and new or are we always feeling beat up and run over? Jesus wants to refresh us daily and provide all we…

VERSE: John 3:15–that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. TRUTH: Everyone. Not just those who come from the right families, or who do the right things. Not those who have lots of money or who go to church every Sunday. Everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. The belief in Jesus Christ is the deciding factor whether we experience the eternal life Jesus Christ promises. Do we believe? Do we share with others so they may believe? RESPONSE: Father, You are truly amazing that You give this gift of eternal life to those who believe in Jesus. Forgive me if I try to add additional…

VERSE: John 2:25–and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man. TRUTH: Jesus didn’t need someone to sit down and try to explain to Him about people and their thoughts and motivations. He already knew. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He is aware of our needs and wants, hopes and fears. We don’t have to wonder or worry about Jesus understanding us. We can come to Him with anything because He already knows us. RESPONSE: Father, I love that I don’t have to hide from You or try to impress You. You see me as I am and…

VERSE: John 1:10–He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. TRUTH: What must that have felt like, to be the creator of the entire world and yet when coming, Jesus was not known or recognized. Do we see and recognize God’s handiwork in our lives? Would we know Him? He created us. We need to know Jesus so closely that we see Him and His hand at work in our daily lives. RESPONSE: Father, our touch is evident throughout my life. Forgive me when I do not see it or recognize it for what it is. I will be…

VERSE: Leviticus 27:34–These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai. TRUTH: As this book concludes, the Lord summarizes this whole book into this one statement. These are the commandments which God gave the people. God does require things from us. He has standards and requirements for all people. Are we on the lookout for opportunities to be obedient to Him? RESPONSE: Lord, You do have expectations for how we are to be obedient to You. Thankfully, even though I fall short on my own, through Your Son Jesus Christ I can meet these expectations and allow Jesus to live that perfect…

VERSE: Leviticus 26:12–I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people. TRUTH: God desires a relationship with us. He doesn’t want to be considered a distant God. He wants to be close and personal. If we are being obedient to Him, He promises to walk with us and be with us throughout everything that we do. Are we following God and walking with Him as He walks with us? RESPONSE: Father, I thank You for wanting more than just a distant relationship, but that You desire to know me and to walk with me in every situation. If I feel distant from you,…

VERSE: Leviticus 25:17–So you shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God; for I am the Lord your God. TRUTH: While all of the laws God put into place for the people were to keep them from sinning against God, some of them were also to keep them from wronging other people, too. How we treat others is a direct reflection of our obedience to God. He is the Lord and because of our relationship with Him, we are to treat others right.RESPONSE: Father, help me to treat others correctly and let my life be a reflection of obedience to You. You are the Lord and because of…

Book Review – Cry, Laugh, Cook by Yvonne Conte
The wonderful Yvonne Conte gave me a copy of her book in return for an honest review of it. I was excited to get to read through this as I had already heard great things about the book. The book didn’t disappoint! Cry, Laugh, Cook was like a glimpse into Yvonne Conte’s life and the humorous and touching stories that have surrounded her and followed her throughout her lifetime. She indicates in the book that she wrote this to help her own family understand and preserve the Italian family heritage she grew up knowing and loving. She has accomplished that and so much more. I enjoyed reading through these stories. They…
