Christian Devotional – November 24, 2012
VERSE: Acts 8:4–Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word. TRUTH: The whole reason they were scattered is because they were being persecuted due to their faith in Jesus Christ. Yet, as they went to other places, they continued to share and preach the truth about Jesus to everyone the met. Do we hold fast to the truth of Jesus no matter what? Do we share that truth wherever we go? RESPONSE: Father, I pray that no matter where You take me as I follow You, that I will be faithful and obedient to share Your truth with everyone.

VERSE: Act 7:54–Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they began gnashing their teeth at him. TRUTH: The message of the gospel of Jesus Christ always gets a response. Sometimes, as in this case where Stephen shares it with the Jews, it’s a very strong and angry response. The people listened to Stephen’s message, but didn’t want to believe that they were responsible for the wrongs they had done. They heard and understood the message, but refused to believe. As a result, their decision was to kill the messenger. Do we share the powerful message of Jesus Christ? Or are we afraid of the possible…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!VERSE: Acts 6:4–“But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” TRUTH: The apostles had a responsibility to do, and God had tasked them with the job of teaching and proclaiming the word of God. Yet other responsibilities needed to be done, too. They learned that each person had a task to do to help further the message of the gospel. Are we taking our responsibilities to the service and message of God seriously and devoting ourselves to them? RESPONSE: Father, I will devote myself to the responsibility and plan that You have for me. I will devote myself to prayer. I will spread…

VERSE: Acts 5:32–“And we are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey.” TRUTH: We are witnesses. We are to share what God has done in our life. We are not alone in our witness. God has given us the Holy Spirit to stand with us and to witness along with us. Even when we face people who don’t believe, we are not alone and can face whatever their response because we have the gift of the Holy Spirit and are being obedient to God. RESPONSE: Lord, You are over all and excitedly, You are with me through all. I…

VERSE: “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” TRUTH: Believing and trusting in Jesus for salvation is the only way. We cannot have Jesus and …, it must be Jesus alone. In some places, people learn about Jesus and then just add Him to the pantheon of gods they already worship. But, Jesus is the only name through which God has provided salvation and He will not share that position with anyone or anything else in our lives. RESPONSE: Father, I will put my faith and trust in Jesus…

VERSE: Acts 3:6–But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you; In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene–walk!” TRUTH: It’s easy to get focused on all the things that we don’t have to give others. Yet we are faced with a world in need. They may think they need one thing or another, but as believers in Jesus Christ, we know what they actually need. Are we willing to look past people’s spoken needs and be willing to give them what they actually need? RESPONSE: Father, help me to see people and their needs as You see them. I…

VERSE: Acts 2:38–Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. TRUTH: What does it mean to “be saved” or “give your heart to God?” These phrases are often used in churches and yet people don’t always know what they mean. Peter, very simply, indicates that people are to repent, which means to confess the wrongs they have done to God. God promises to forgive us when we do (1 John 1:9) and then after that, two things are to happen. We are to be baptized…

VERSE: Acts 1:14–These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. TRUTH: The early church had just witnessed Jesus ascending to heaven. Now they retreated to a room to pray. What is the secret to the people in a church being all of the same mind? Prayer. The believers spent their time together in prayer. We should never underestimate the power of corporate prayer, not only for the answers received, but also for the unifying sense of purpose and vision to follow God. Are we making it a priority to meet with others for…

VERSE: Proverbs 31:8–Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all the unfortunate. TRUTH: What are we using our mouths for? Do we speak up for those who have no voice? Are we defending those who are less fortunate? We must be aware of those who are around us and speak up for and defend those who do not have a way to speak up and defend themselves. RESPONSE: Father, I want to use my mouth today for good. I know I have a responsibility to speak up for the rights of the unfortunate who do not have a voice. Give me the boldness to follow You in…
