Christian Devotional – April 24, 2019

Sinners need salvation. That may seem simplistic, but that is the essence of the gospel message. If people were truly good already, then they wouldn’t need Christ. Read 1 Timothy 1:8-11.

But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

The law was given to us so that we would understand the full extent of our sin. Without something to use as a measuring stick, we would come up with our own definition of what’s good and what’s bad, of what’s right and what’s wrong. God has his own definition of right and wrong and he makes that abundantly clear through his law.

The law was not given so that we could measure up to it. We can’t. The law was given so that we would understand that we are sinners in need of salvation. That is why the gospel is so incredibly glorious. God provided a way to help us get past all the issues and the sins that we have and our lives. The law allows us to recognize our need and then Jesus Christ himself created the way for us to be saved. Have we recognized our need and accepted our Savior today?
