Repentance. God desires a repentant heart. That is the entire reason that he brings about judgment in the first place, so that we will understand our need to repent and turn to him. Read 1 Kings 21:27.
It came about when Ahab heard these words, that he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and fasted, and he lay in sackcloth and went about despondently.

Elijah delivers God’s message to Ahab. However, the story doesn’t end there. It wasn’t just about a judgment that Ahab was going to receive. Ahab responded. He saw God’s picture of judgment, and he repented and asked God to forgive him for the wrongs that he had done.
When we are faced with the reality of our sin, how do we respond? Do we become depressed and despondent? Do we assume that it doesn’t matter? Or do we fall on our knees before a Holy God and recognize that we need his forgiveness and we need his salvation? This is the very reason that God allows us to experience the consequences of our actions in the first place. He desires us to turn to him. Are we willing to be repentant today?
