ADHD Gospel, Day 3

Authority. Read Mark 1:16-34.

Have you ever been around someone who didn’t really have authority, but tried to pretend that they did? Some people try mask it really well. Others, you can tell right away that they don’t really believe what they are saying. Either way, eventually, it becomes easy to spot the real from the fake.

As Jesus started his ministry here on earth, one characterization of his ministry was his authority. He called people to follow him, and they did it. They left jobs, friends, family and followed Jesus just because Jesus asked them to. As Jesus taught in the synagogue, the people commented about how he was so different from the other teachers. Jesus spoke with authority. Jesus commanded unclean spirits, and he did so with authority. All his interactions were characterized by this confident assurance. Jesus knew who He was, and He knew His power. He had authority.

When believers in Christ talk about having Christ in their life, or Christ in their heart, that’s very true. But one of the key components of that is living in the authority of Jesus Christ. Jesus has all authority. He is over absolutely everything in this world and as he lives in us, he still has that level of authority. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing in our day, we can confidently rest in knowing that Jesus is over absolutely everything and that he is working on our behalf.

We have authority because of his authority, not because of anything we have done on our own. And Jesus’s authority is over absolutely everything. Are we resting confidently in the authority of Jesus Christ? Are we seeking to see his authority lived out in our life every day.
