Not alone. As we near the end of the story of Elijah, we see him try to be alone again, but Elisha won’t let him. Read 2 Kings 2:1-2.

And it came about when the Lord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here please, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

Elijah has tried to be alone before, when he sent his servant away before he headed off to escape from Jezebal. However, now the circumstances have changed. Elijah is coming to the end of his time on this Earth and he starts by telling Elisha to stay while he goes on ahead. But Elisha won’t let him.

Sometimes, old habits die hard. Elijah was used to being alone and God knew that he needed Elisha in his life to learn and to be mentored by a Elijah. But also, Elisha would not allow Elijah to be alone.

What about us? Do we have people that we can rely on who will stick beside us, no matter what? Are we that person for someone else? Even if we can’t think of anyone in our life that is there for us, we can always be there for someone else who needs us. Who are we encouraging to keep walking in the path that God has for them?
