Christian Devotional – December 10, 2014
VERSE:
Judges 8:27–Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town . All Israel prostituted themselves by worshipping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family.
TRUTH:
Gideon had done so many wonderful things and had allowed God to use him in mighty ways. However, he became prideful and that became a stumbling block. Instead of continuing to worship the God who had given him the victory. He started to worship the gold that he took as a result of the victory. It is easy to get distracted from the One who truly deserves our worship if we are not diligent to keep our focus on Him.
RESPONSE:
Father, no matter the victories or the defeats that I go through in this life, keep me focused on You. Even a great victory that turns my eyes away from You would be a terrible defeat. I do not want to cause a snare for myself or for anyone else around me.
