Observations from the Doctor, Day 19

Who are you? Read Luke chapter 16.

We have several stories through Luke chapter 16 and Jesus deals with the issue of our character. Chapter 16 versus 10 really stood out to me today. The verse led me to think a lot about who I am. With this verse, we see the importance of understanding the character of who we are. Our character will simply be amplified or diminished, depending upon what we have. Having more money doesn’t make someone better. It just makes them more of whatever they are. If someone has more time, does it mean they will use it more wisely? No, it just means they will do more of whatever they are typically doing.

All the things that we think of in this world are simply tools to enhance or diminish the character of who we are. If we are allowing Christ to live in our lives and live through us, then his character will be reflected in what we say and do. It will show in how we spend our money and how we spend our time. We can then be trusted to have more time and more money. Because our character doesn’t change, it’s only enhanced and by having more. Having more stuff isn’t always necessarily a blessing from the Lord. Sometimes having more stuff is actually more of a responsibility and creates more conflict and problems.

We need to stay focused on God and who he is and what he’s done for us. We need to focus on allowing Christ’s character to be our character, so that no matter whether we have a lot of time or a little time, a lot of resources or only a few resources. Either way, we are a reflection of Christ. Are we allowing Christ to be lived out in us today?
