Observations from the Doctor, Day 18

Lost and Found. Read Luke chapter 15.

I help out at a school, and one of the places in the school that is interesting to me is the lost and found. Recently, the school had accumulated so many items in the lost and found that they moved it out into a larger section where everyone passes by every day to see if that would help student find that which was lost.

It made me think that honestly, the name of that area is wrong because this was only the lost section. These were not the things that had been found by their owner yet. Piled on these shelves were water bottles, jackets, lunch boxes, and textbooks. They had been lost, but had not been found yet. In some cases, the owner may not have even realized they were missing.

As we read the stories in Luke 15 today, we realized that 3 items were lost: a sheep, a coin, and a person. In each of the 3 cases, it was realized that they were lost, and the impact of that loss was felt deeply by that person. So much so that when they items were found there was much rejoicing

Do we realize just how precious we are to God? If we have not surrendered a Christ, we are lost, and unlike those neglected and forgotten water bottles on a school shelf, God knows we are lost, God is seeking us. He knows where we are, but he also knows that we have to want to be found. Like the person in the Luke chapter 15, we have to make a decision to come back to God. When we come back, there is rejoicing and celebrating, but until we make that decision, we will continue to be lost.

Don’t be like a neglected pencil case or water bottle. God knows you are lost. And desperately wants you to recognize that, too, so that you will turn to him and seek to be found. Don’t just stay in the lost section. Be in the lost and found God section.
