Christian Devotional – February 8, 2016

Read John chapter 2

VERSE:

John 2:17–His disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”

TRUTH:

As the disciples were following Jesus, He went to the temple one day. That wasn’t an unusual circumstance, but what He did there was. Jesus cleaned out and ran off all the people who were using the church as a means to make a profit. Jesus was passionate about the house of God and He wanted the people to be using the house of God for the purpose that it was intended, prayer and fellowship with God. How do we treat God’s house now? Is it a social club in which to gather and gossip about the week’s events? Is it a place to chastise ourselves for not following a set of rules? Why do we go to church? It should be because of our passion and desire to meet with and worship God.

RESPONSE:

Father, I want to go and meet with You. I desire to seek You and You only. Help me to share what You have done and are doing so that You may be glorified through me in everything I do, included going to church.
