VERSE:
1 Kings 2:3–and observe what the Lord your God requires. Walk in obedience to him and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.
TRUTH:
David is giving his final words of wisdom to his son Solomon. David knew that he didn’t have much time left on earth before he died and he wanted to be sure that he gave his son everything that he needed to be an effective king. This was his statement of wisdom: obey the Lord. If we were given only one thing that we could pass on to the next generation, what would be our words of wisdom? Would we recognize the importance of sharing with them that above all else, we must serve, honor, and obey God? Our life should point people to that, but we must never underestimate the importance of saying it.
RESPONSE:
Father, I know that I desire this for my children, but I don’t always come right out and say it. Help me to give the same words of wisdom to my children that David gave to his own. I will praise You and thank You for all that You are doing in their lives. Help me to share more and more with them each day.
