The One Jesus Loved, Day 21

Who are those we are leading? This third letter from John starts off with the apostle praising God for the people that he had led to Christ and that they are continuing to be faithful. Read 3 John 1:1-4.

Certainly as followers of Jesus Christ, we are to be influential in leading and growing and discipling other people in their relationship with Christ. However, it doesn’t stop there. We’re not just to be an influence or a leader or trainer, we are to be helping those people to actually affect change in their own lives. John had no greater joy than to know that the people he had been working with have been remaining true and staying steadfast in their walk with Christ.

For us, recognizing and knowing what people are doing with the knowledge that we have helped them learn is just as important as giving them the knowledge in the first place. Are they in turn talking and sharing what they’ve learned with others?

We are to teach and train in such a way that the people who are our students become teachers and trainers of others and so it continues.. John was excited to learn that the people he had poured his life into were remaining faithful and were growing and teaching others. Can we say the same about the people we are leading? Do we pray for them to continue to grow and move in the faith? How can we continue to grow people who in turn grow other people?
