Wisdom Squandered, Day 18

Get caught quickly. Read Ecclesiastes 8:9-13.
One of the prayers I have prayed for my children as they grow up is that if they are doing something they shouldn’t be doing, then I pray they get caught quickly. I don’t want them to get used to getting away with doing things they shouldn’t be doing.
We know that God is going to judge all our actions in the end, but some people seem to get away with things now. It just doesn’t feel right when people who do the wrong thing aren’t punished for what they do. Yet, that is exactly what Solomon is talking about here. Apparently, that still happened even in his day and time.
When people don’t immediately get judged or punished for doing the wrong thing, it can be easy to start to think that it’s okay to do it or that there are no consequences for doing something wrong. Unfortunately, there are always consequences for doing something wrong. God is going to judge us and we need to recognize that.
The sins that we have committed and the wrongs that we have done, we will be held accountable for them. It’s so much better to have that accountability happen immediately, so that we don’t continue doing the wrong things, thinking that we got away with them. Wrong things are still wrong, regardless of whether we are caught or not. God still sees, and God still knows. What do we need to repent of today that is wrong, but that we may not have necessarily been caught doing?
