Christian Devotional – March 8, 2015
VERSE:
Psalm 61:5–For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
TRUTH:
Sometimes we get caught up with our family heritage and thinking about whether we are living up to those who have gone before us. Sometimes our family heritage is less than stellar and we get down on ourselves thinking we can’t rise above where we come from. However, God is very clear here that as we come to Him and commit ourselves to Him, He makes us part of His heritage. We know have a kinship with those other believers who have gone before us. We have the same faith, the same Father, we are family. We don’t have to worry about whether we are good enough or not good enough; by our faith and God’s mercy we have been chosen to join His family and we can claim His heritage as our own today.
RESPONSE:
Father, Your family is not full of perfect people, but it is full of people who have committed themselves to You. I praise You for allowing me to join in Your heritage as I seek to follow You and make Your name known among all the peoples of the earth so that they, too, may join the family.
