Discipline. So much is involved in this one word. Yet Paul doesn’t talk about just any discipline, but discipline for the purpose of Godliness. Read 1 Timothy 4:7-8.
But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

He very specifically indicates that this is discipline for the purpose of Godliness, not just bodily discipline. Are we focusing ourselves on the importance of Godliness in our lives? Are we intentional in our pursuit of it? If not, we may find ourselves focusing on the things that don’t lead to Godliness.
