Christian Devotional – November 6, 2016

Read Job chapter 1

VERSE:

Job 1:21–and I said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, may the name of the Lord be praised.”

TRUTH:

Job had just gone through incredible loss. He was experiencing grief on a level that not many of us experience in this life. Yet, his response back to God is to say that everything belonged to God and that God was free to give and free to take away, as long as the Lord’s Name was praised. Indeed, we truly have and own nothing. At some point we will lose everything, whether it is lost while we’re still on this earth, or we lose it when we die. The only thing that matters is that God’s will be done and that God’s name be praised. Are we focusing on giving God what He deserves?

RESPONSE:

Father, I praise You and I thank You for all that You have done in my life. Everything that I have is Yours and You are free to do with it whatever You want. I will praise You today. I will praise You tomorrow and I will praise You forevermore, not based on what You’ve given me, but solely based on who You are alone.
