Christian Devotional – September 14, 2014
VERSE:
1 Corinthians 7:5–Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
TRUTH:
God’s design for marriage is for one man and one woman together for a lifetime, and God created sex to be shared between a husband and wife. In this verse, husbands and wives are to be actively physically involved with each other. Sex is something that Satan has taken and perverted so much in our world today and he often attacks marriages in this very area. Paul knew this even back then and encouraged marriages to be sexual so that Satan wouldn’t have an opportunity to tempt husbands and wives to sin sexually. Whether we are single or married, are we following God’s plan for our lives sexually?
RESPONSE:
Father, this can be a difficult topic to discuss sometimes, but if we don’t stand up and live out Your plan for sex, we will never know Your blessing in this area. Keep me focused on You and my husband (wife) so that we may glorify You even in our sexual relationship.
EXTRA:
Since this is such a difficult area and one that can have so much baggage that individuals and couples have to wade through sometimes, I want to recommend a wonderful sister in Christ, Sheila Wray Gregoire, who often writes on these issues. She can be found at http://tolovehonorandvacuum.com/
